Ladies Match Reports 2005-6
11th September vs Vagabonds (Home) Won 33-10 Northwich Ladies kicked off their season with a fine win against the Isle of Man. They ran out convincing winners by 33-10. Tries came from Sarah Lydon (2), Sarah Whittaker, Trish Taylor and Dawn Akrige. Vicky Reeve kicked four conversions to delight Northwich coach Steve Wood.
Back to fixtures 16th October vs Leigh (Home) Lost 32-0 With three league games played and performances improving each week the team had high hopes for this match against Leigh. This was especially true as it had been so close last year and the only defeat so the team were looking for revenge. The game began very evenly and Leigh just slipped ahead with an early penalty. It continued in the same vein with both teams having chances. Most of Leigh’s chances were expertly denied by Yvonne, who got her body between the ball and the ground on several occasions. Unfortunately they did manage to convert a period of strong pressure into points.
At half time Northwich were sure the match could be turned around and the half began well with a step up from every player. It was most noticeable in the forwards, who kept it tight and drove Leigh off the park. However with an injury, a positional reshuffle and time against the the game went beyond Northwich’s reach. Special mention should go to forward of the match Ellie and back of the match Suzie who made her debut at full back. Hopefully a weekend off to reflect and a couple of intense training sessions should up the teams’ performance again for Hartlepool.
